Our Mission

Here When You Need Us

Life with pets is unpredictable. When unexpected care is needed, Tucson Veterinary Urgent Care is here for the southern Arizona community.

Our team of seasoned veterinary professionals is skilled in a variety of critical care disciplines so you’ll always have a place to turn when your pet needs to be seen immediately. Because the last thing you need when your pet is sick or injured is more stress.

At Tucson Veterinary Urgent Care, we have a simple goal—to never make a pet who needs care have to wait for an appointment to open up. We do everything we can to make getting your pet the care they need as fast and easy as possible.

Our Story

Tucson Veterinary Urgent Care has been caring for pets in southern Arizona since 1978. Originally operating as Pima Pet Clinic—a general practice and 24-hour emergency clinic—our focus changed in 2021. Seeing a gap in local offerings between regular, planned veterinary visits and care for life-threatening emergencies, we shifted gears to offer urgent care services on a same-day, walk-in basis.

Leading us through the transition and beyond is our Medical Director, Dr. Tatum Wales. Dr. Wales graduated from veterinary school in 2004 with an equine background and began practicing large animal medicine. A few years later, an offer from a veterinary hospital in the town where she grew up lured her home, and she made the transition to small animal medicine. To broaden her knowledge base, Dr. Wales worked shifts at a local emergency hospital, spending a couple of weeks working in each specialty before settling in at the general practice clinic. However, having had a taste of providing critical care, Dr. Wales knew it was an area of medicine she enjoyed. When the opportunity to move to Tucson and work as a relief doctor came up, she jumped at the chance.

Dr. Wales’ passion for urgent care and commitment to pets is a driving force behind the culture and quality standards we are known for in the community. Today, we are the Tucson area’s only stand-alone urgent care hospital. And we’re proud to be the place pet owners count on in their time of need.
