Your pet’s senior years can be golden

As cute as puppies and kittens are, perhaps nothing touches the heart as much as a beloved senior dog or cat that has been a part of your family before your kids could even walk. Isn’t it the best feeling to know you can give them not just extended quantity of years in their life, but a better quality of life too?

Senior pet care at Tucson Veterinary Urgent Care focuses on early diagnosis or common age-related pet health issues. We consider your dogs and cats as senior pets once they hit about age 7 or 8 but this is breed dependent as well.

Ideally, your pet will undergo a twice-a-year physical where we look for signs of disease or deterioration.

We can also perform the following tests to establish baselines and monitor your pet’s aging:

  • Complete Blood Chemistry Panel and (CBC) complete blood count
  • Urinalysis
  • Thyroid check
  • Electrolyte check
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG)
  • Radiographs

Planning Senior Pet Health

During your pet’s exams, our veterinarians will also discuss nutrition and exercise goals for your senior dog or cat. This is important because age-related conditions and issues causing pain to your pet, like arthritis, can be managed better when your pet’s weight is managed.
